Nabunturan, Compostela Valley (12 March) -- If you want to travel, Go south!

The Southern Mindanao Regional Tourism Council (RTC) airs its calls for tourists to go south and visit Mindanao, in its newly launched travel magazine, "Go South".

In the launching in Compostela Valley, RTC chairperson Alma Uy presented a copy of the full-colored, glossy travel mag which she said had been printed in Hong Kong.

She bared the cost of coming out the first issue of 20,000 copies, amounting to about P400,000.

Go South maiden issue features the Musikahan Festival of Tagum City but it also presents significant information about the business and tourism climate of Davao Region.

It initially introduces some of the must-see places which mostly are eco-tourism sites, in the region.

"For a start, Go South features the Davao Region but it will later include the whole of Mindanao," Uy said.

In its succeeding issues, the Go South will also be featuring other festivals in the region such as the Caracoles Festival of the Island Garden City of Samal and the Kadayawan Festival of Davao City, Uy said.

Other than festivals and eco-tourism sites, the Go South also includes directories of hotels and restaurants in the region and maps to help visitors locate areas in the region that they want to visit.

Selling it at P99 a copy, RTC has put it out to raise funds that it can use to sustain its promotion of tourism potential places in the Davao Region and in the entire Mindanao.

"We're not only aiming locally but globally," Uy said as she noted the world-class quality of the magazine that international airlines can carry and have their multi-national passengers read it on their travel.

Those interested can buy it in hotels, malls, restaurants and in tourism offices in the region. (PIA/JMDA)
