Ozamiz City constructs P400 million road

OZAMIZ CITY -- A P400-million coastal road is being constructed here to help decongest vehicular traffic in the urban district.

The Ozamiz City coastal bypass road project aims to arrest the worsening traffic condition at the city proper where big cargo trucks and container vans going to and from the pier still ply the main thoroughfares.

When completed, the coastal road will provide an alternative route for north and southbound vehicles to avoid the snarl of the urban district.

Stretching some 6.45 kilometers, the road will traverse six coastal barangays and will also feature a promenade walk, which will be a tourist attraction.

The reclaimed land area in four barangays will be developed into a commercial area with provisions for housing relocation for urban poor families that will be displaced by the infrastructure development.

The project is being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and is set to be completed in 2010.

According to Misamis Occidental Rep. Herminia Ramiro, the project has a P50-million allocation in the General Appropriations Act of 2008.

As of now, over a kilometer's stretch of the road was already started using funds from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of Ramiro. (Ryan D. Rosauro)
