MANILA, Philippines - The Subdivision
and Housing Developers Association (SHDA) has submitted to the Department of
Trade and Industry (DTI) a proposed road map which seeks to help address the
country’s housing backlog.
The country’s housing backlog is
estimated to reach 4.56 million units by the end of 2016.
“Before the road map process, the
industry is aware that a housing backlog exists but the extent was noy very
clear. Now that we have prepared the road map, we were able to probe the issues
affecting our value chain and the factors that could help it grow,” SHDA
president Paul Tanchi said.
He said one of the priority strategies
identified is for faster processing of housing permits and licenses.
He said there is also a need to
sustain affordability of housing through financing schemes.
“We recognize the need for stronger
collaboration among industry players, key shelter agencies and the national
government to address these gaps,” he added.
